Air pollution – research
Air pollution can come from various sources, including factories, vehicles, power plants, fires, dry cleaners, etc. It’s a threat to the health of humans, trees, crops, and animals, it can also damage the ozone layer, buildings, and lakes. Air pollution also causes acid rain and contributes to climate change. If extreme, it can endanger human life by reducing visibility and causing accidents with the haze it creates. Air pollution is also present inside houses and buildings, and every year, peoples’ health is harmed by the chemicals affecting the air inside their homes. In 1985, the EPA reported that these chemicals present in the air of American homes are 3 times more likely to cause cancer than the air pollution present outdoors.
There are some organizations that try to control the amount of air pollution, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), whose goal is to improve air quality in the United States for the future generations with their Clean Air Act. In the United States, with the Clean Air Act, the EPA sets a limit on the amount of pollutants that can be released in the air. They seek to improve their nation’s health through the Clean Air Act, improving air quality (both indoors and outdoors), reducing air pollutants emitted by industries and vehicles.
With the assistance of projects like these, air quality in the US has significantly improved over the last 20 years. However, it is difficult to monitor such a thing, and there are still many challenges that need to be faced.
